Historique
Demeure construite en 1885 pour et par l'architecte Jacques Baumier, le "créateur" du style néo-normand. Baumier y créé une oeuvre très éclectique, représentative du courant architectural fin de siècle. La silhouette générale accuse une dominante néo-Louis XIII avec l'emploi de la brique et de la pierre, les harpages, les grandes lucarnes, le toit en pavillon et les souches très verticales. L'influence de la Renaissance est lisible dans le dessin de la grande croisée de la façade sur rue. L'aile côté jardin rappelle davantage la facture régionaliste avec l'emploi du pan de bois. Le décor intérieur utilise la sculpture, la peinture murale, la quincaillerie et la menuiserie. Cette villa constitue l'un des meilleurs exemples de demeure urbaine caennaise de la fin du 19e siècle.

History
Residence built in 1885 for and by the architect Jacques Baumier, the "creator" of the Neo-Norman style. Baumier created a very eclectic work there, representative of the end-of-century architectural movement. The overall silhouette displays a dominant Neo-Louis XIII character with the use of brick and stone, the quoins, the large dormers, the pavilion roof and the very vertical chimney stacks. The influence of the Renaissance is discernible in the design of the large cross-window on the street façade. The wing on the garden side is more reminiscent of regionalist execution with the use of timber framing. The interior decoration uses sculpture, mural painting, hardware and carpentry. This villa constitutes one of the finest examples of an urban Caennaise residence of the late 19th century.
