Historique
Description

History
At the limit of the land of Arles and Fos, the domain of La Favouillane is located within the agricultural space of the Radeau, a former marshy area to the east of the Rhône. Established in the 13th century by the Order of the Knights of Saint-John of Jerusalem, it was erected into a commandery in 1614: a mas was built there in 1630 with dependencies in the form of cabins built of earth and covered with reed. In 1793, the domain was sold at auction. In 1830, its owner attached it to the domain of the Radeau.
Description
Succeeding a cabin from the late 17th century, the large sheepfold of la Favouillane was built between 1851 and 1891, according to cartographic data. It offers a rectangular plan 50 m long by 12 m wide, completed by an apse to the north to avoid wind exposure. It consists of walls 1 m high, made of pebble concrete bonded with lime mortar, punctuated by rampant buttresses inscribed in the continuation of the trusses. The roof structure comprises nine large trusses; three intermediate purlins spaced 2 m apart support the rafters on which the "coundorso", unworked willow wood rods, are arranged. The covering in "sagne" is formed of small bundles of reeds 10 cm in diameter, "the manons" fixed to the "coundorso".
