L'hôtel de Venel conserve deux plafonds peints de style et d''époque différents, caractéristiques du début et de la fin du règne de Louis XIV. Ils offrent la singularité d'avoir été commandés par deux membres de la même famille, chacune des deux oeuvres retraçant un épisode de leur vie personnelle. Le plafond de la chambre de parade est daté des années 1650-1655 et traité dans le goût du maniérisme. Quant à celui de l'anti-chambre, il est considéré comme l'une des grandes réussites de l'art aixoix de la fin du 17ème siècle. Ce décor peint est une réalisation des frères Daniel, Jérôme et Jean-Baptiste.

History
The Hôtel de Venel preserves two painted ceilings of different style and period, characteristic of the beginning and end of the reign of Louis XIV. They offer the singularity of having been commissioned by two members of the same family, each of the two works recounting an episode of their personal life. The ceiling of the state bedroom is dated to the years 1650-1655 and treated in the taste of mannerism. As for that of the ante-chamber, it is considered one of the great successes of Aix art of the end of the 17th century. This painted decoration is a creation of the Daniel brothers, Jérôme and Jean-Baptiste.
