History
This is a rock detached from the cliff forming part of the country property of the Régis family at the end of the ancien régime. Father Roch de Régis, a Jesuit, had carved by Denis between 1785 and 1789, a rock in memory of his relative the bailli de Suffren. An engraving of 1790 shows the stern portion of a ship against a background of wooded landscape whose foreground presents a pergola adorned with a fountain. A staircase carved into the lateral part of the rock evokes the gangway. The sternpost or stern of the ship is marked by a parapet made of dressed and mortared stones.
