L'idée d'élever un monument en hommage à Frédéric Mistral remonte aux années 1880. L'emplacement est fixé avec l'accord du poète qui adjoint au sculpteur Théodore Rivière, Claude Férigoule également sculpteur. History
The idea of erecting a monument in homage to Frédéric Mistral dates back to the 1880s. The location was fixed with the agreement of the poet, who added to sculptor Théodore Rivière, Claude Férigoule, also a sculptor. In 1942, the statue was melted down at the request of the Ministry of Industrial Production. The head was cut out and saved by Mugnani, a scrap metal dealer from Marseille. The statue was reconstituted from the maquette and inaugurated in 1948.
