Des projets de création d'un port à l'embouchure du Rhône sont nombreux à partir du début du 19e siècle. La création de Port-Saint-Louis commence vers 1850-1860. Les travaux de l'Etat durent de 1863 à 1871 : création du canal Saint-Louis (du golfe de Fos jusqu'au Rhône) , bassin portuaire, écluse (du canal jusqu'au Rhône). La mise en eau se fait en 1871. Les entrepôts, construits entre 1880 et 1882, sont situés en front de quai. Ils sont constitués d'une maison d'habitation située au sud face à la tour royale, sur deux niveaux et flanquée de part et d'autre d'entrepôts ou magasins. Ceux-ci forment une cour intérieure fermée au nord par deux bâtiments d'habitation. Depuis les années 1960 et la création du port de Fos-sur-Mer, l'activité portuaire de Port-Saint-Louis n'est plus rentable et la majeure partie des bâtiments liés à l'activité portuaire est en train de disparaître.

History
Projects for the creation of a port at the mouth of the Rhône are numerous from the beginning of the 19th century. The creation of Port-Saint-Louis begins around 1850-1860. The State works lasted from 1863 to 1871: creation of the Saint-Louis canal (from the gulf of Fos to the Rhône), port basin, lock (from the canal to the Rhône). The water supply took place in 1871. The warehouses, built between 1880 and 1882, are situated on the quayside front. They consist of a dwelling house located to the south facing the royal tower, on two storeys and flanked on either side by warehouses or shops. These form an interior courtyard closed to the north by two residential buildings. Since the 1960s and the creation of the port of Fos-sur-Mer, the port activity of Port-Saint-Louis is no longer profitable and the majority of buildings linked to port activity is disappearing.
