Le théâtre antique de Cadayrac présente un intérêt suffisant au point de vue de l’histoire et de l’archéologie pour en rendre désirable la préservation en raison de la rareté dans le sud-ouest de la France de ce type d’édifice de spectacle implanté au sein d’une agglomération sanctuaire. Les vestiges du théâtre gallo-romain de Cadayrac d'environ 2000 places situés à une quinzaine de kilomètres de Rodez, sont implantés dans une dépression naturelle dans la partie ouest du Causse Comtal à proximité du hameau de Cadayrac. Il est datable du 1er-2e siècle après Jésus-Christ. Il est situé sur un site archéologique préservé car il a été très peu fouillé au 19e siècle. Des sondages ont été réalisés par l'abbé Cérès dans les années 1860. Entre 1996 et 1998, Jean-Emmanuel Guilbaut, ingénieur d'études au service régional de l'archéologie, effectue des sondages stratigraphiques et un relevé en plan qui ont permis de réaliser une coupe du théâtre antique et de mieux analyser le monument.

History
The ancient theatre of Cadayrac presents sufficient interest from the point of view of history and archaeology to make its preservation desirable on account of the rarity in south-west France of this type of entertainment building set within a sanctuary settlement. The vestiges of the Gallo-Roman theatre of Cadayrac with approximately 2000 seats, located some fifteen kilometres from Rodez, are situated in a natural depression in the western part of the Causse Comtal near the hamlet of Cadayrac. It is datable to the 1st-2nd century after Christ. It is located on an archaeological site that has been preserved because it was very little excavated in the 19th century. Soundings were carried out by the abbé Cérès in the 1860s. Between 1996 and 1998, Jean-Emmanuel Guilbaut, research engineer at the regional archaeology service, carried out stratigraphic soundings and a plan survey which made it possible to produce a section through the ancient theatre and to better analyse the monument.
