L'urbanisation des faubourgs de la ville entraîne la construction de cette église, commandée à l'architecte Henri Pons en 1885. De style néo-roman, l'édifice, bâti de 1886 à 1898, s'inspire de l'abbatiale de Conques et des églises de pèlerinage : croix latine avec une abside de choeur flanquée de chapelles échelonnées. Une tour lanterne octogonale s'élève au-dessus de la croisée des transepts. Le décor se compose essentiellement de mosaïque.

History
The urbanisation of the suburbs of the town led to the construction of this church, commissioned from architect Henri Pons in 1885. Of neo-Romanesque style, the building, constructed from 1886 to 1898, is inspired by the abbey-church of Conques and pilgrimage churches: Latin cross with a choir chevet flanked by staggered chapels. An octagonal lantern tower rises above the crossing of the transepts. The decoration consists essentially of mosaic.
