Cette tour est un vestige important de l'ancienne grange monastique qui dépendait de l'abbaye cistercienne de Bonnecombe, fondée en 1167 par le comte de Toulouse. Cette abbaye fut très vite pourvue de granges jusqu'en Albigeois, celle-ci faisant partie des plus anciennes. Elle était spécialisée dans la production de vin. Vendue en 1792 comme bien national, elle fut utilisée par la suite en bâtiment agricole et, à partir de 1925, en forge. La tour, construite en grès de rougier et en gneiss, paraît dater de la fin du 13e siècle ou du début du 14e. Elle devait servir d'habitation et de défense contiguë à une grande remise dont subsistent une cave et quelques pans de mur. La tour présente quatre niveaux, les deux premiers servant de lieu de stockage. Le troisième niveau, réservé à l'habitation, renferme un exemple rare et relativement bien conservé de peinture murale profane.

History
This tower is an important vestige of the former monastic barn which belonged to the Cistercian abbey of Bonnecombe, founded in 1167 by the count of Toulouse. This abbey was very quickly provided with granges as far as Albigeois, this one being among the oldest. It was specialised in wine production. Sold in 1792 as national property, it was subsequently used as an agricultural building and, from 1925, as a smithy. The tower, constructed in rougier sandstone and gneiss, appears to date from the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th. It must have served as habitation and defence contiguous to a large storage shed of which a cellar and a few sections of wall remain. The tower presents four levels, the first two serving as storage place. The third level, reserved for habitation, contains a rare example and relatively well preserved of secular mural painting.
