Le château de Peyrelade fut l'une des forteresses les plus importantes du Rouergue par sa situation stratégique (contrôle des gorges du Tarn). Il existait au 12e siècle. History
The castle of Peyrelade was one of the most important fortresses of the Rouergue by its strategic position (control of the gorges of the Tarn). It existed in the 12th century. It was the theatre of incessant struggles and sieges until 1633, when it was dismantled. Its ruins give an idea of what the fortress was: exterior wall of more than 250 metres in length for a height of 10 metres and a width of 2.10 metres. The whole is dominated by the rock-donjon of more than 50 metres in height, accessible by means of a round tower which is set against it. The castle has preserved all its defensive devices of the 15th century.
