Excavation of the Clos de la Lombarde uncovered part of the ancient city. The residential complex constitutes, in large part due to the wealth of interior decorations discovered, floors, mosaics, wall paintings, one of the most important Gallo-Roman urban sites. The Clos de la Lombarde illustrates the life of a quarter of Narbonne over nearly five centuries, with its period of prosperity during the High Empire, its decline (typical in the 3rd century) then its renewal with Christianity until its definitive abandonment in the early 5th century. Archaeological interventions have shown the importance of the remains which concern the urbanism of a quarter, the architecture and decoration of the domus, craftsmanship, public buildings such as the baths of the High Empire or the Christian basilica of late antiquity.
