History

Built from 1931 to 1934 in a working-class neighbourhood south of Troyes, Notre-Dame-des-Trévois is one of fifteen parish churches built, for the most part in France and in the Netherlands, by the architect and Benedictine monk Dom Bellot whose work is very much part of the liturgical and religious renewal movement of the inter-war period. Responding perfectly, through its open interior space, to the new requirements of its function and its liturgical programme, of absolute architectural coherence and remarkable quality of execution due to very careful implementation of its construction material, almost exclusively brick, the church is moreover of striking originality to which contributes the permanent attention to detail and the search for polychromatic effects. The church is built on a plan in the form of a Latin cross extended by a polygonal apse with five sides. The façade is adorned with a statue of Notre-Dame des Trévois sculpted by Henri Charlier.
