Historique
Le château de Gruyères est une bâtisse de la fin du 16ème siècle. L'ensemble se distingue par une disposition en U et est encore, pour partie, cerné de douves. La présence de deux tours d'angle circulaires atteste de la volonté de faire de cette demeure une maison-forte. Au 18ème siècle, une chapelle fut aménagée dans la tour nord-ouest et l'entrée de la remise à carrosse fit l'objet d'une totale réfection. Les travaux entrepris en 1835 donnent au logis son apparence actuelle. Dans le même temps, l'aile d'entrée qui clôturait la cour fut détruite. Ces remaniements ont ainsi permis l'émergence d'une demeure typique des constructions de maitre de la restauration comme en témoigne l'emploi discret des formes classiques. L'intérieur s'harmonise avec ces travaux si l'on excepte les cheminées qui datent, selon toute vraisemblance, du 18ème siècle.

History
The château of Gruyères is a building dating from the end of the 16th century. The ensemble is distinguished by a U-shaped layout and is still, in part, surrounded by moats. The presence of two circular corner towers attests to the desire to make this dwelling a manor house. In the 18th century, a chapel was arranged in the north-west tower and the entrance to the carriage house was completely refurbished. The works undertaken in 1835 gave the main dwelling its present appearance. At the same time, the entrance wing which closed off the courtyard was demolished. These alterations thus allowed the emergence of a dwelling typical of master-builder constructions of the Restoration period as evidenced by the discreet use of classical forms. The interior harmonises with these works if one excepts the fireplaces which date, to all appearances, from the 18th century.
