The monument of Colombier-le-Jeune is due to the sculptor Dintrat and testifies to the fact that even a very small commune can possess an original and high-quality war memorial. In 1911, the commune numbered 800 inhabitants. The mayor of Colombier did not seek to erect a war memorial; it was only the arrival of a new priest, abbé Peyrache, in 1931, that would enable the erection of a commemorative monument, which was not completed until 1935. A private individual donated the land, a triangular parcel situated at the junction of the Gilhoc road (D238) and the D209. The monument consists of a stele surrounded by a cement wall, an entrance gate and various shrubs. Ivy overruns the parcel. A military medal is depicted in the lower part. The commemorative inscription and the names of the dead form a U which frames a very fine relief on which is depicted Jeanne d'Arc besieging a town and brandishing her sword, with the inscription Tribute to Jeanne d'Arc. Religious symbols were forbidden on monuments but exceptions are not rare. Jeanne d'Arc was canonized in 1920; she is represented as a warrior and not in prayer. A bronze olive branch has fallen to the ground. Beneath the word Immortality, a double bas-relief is presented, a scene evoking the front occupying approximately two-thirds of the composition, while life at the rear is depicted for one-third. In a manner both stylized and realistic, Dintrat concentrates trench life in a few figures: a soldier waiting, two shouldering their rifles and the evacuation of a wounded man. The second scene depicts a harvest scene with a family, composed of grandparents, the father (the mother being curiously absent) and two children. The word Pax is inscribed in the sun and a church crowned with a statue of the Virgin is visible in the background. The monument not being commissioned by the commune, only the newspapers of the days following the inauguration bear witness to local intentions.
