La ferme de La Besse se trouve dans le hameau de Rieutord qui forme commune avec Usclases situé de l'autre côté de la berge de la Loire. Les terres de Rieutord sont dans le giron de l'abbaye de Mazan au moins depuis 1400, date d'un bail à cens passé entre l'abbé de Mazn et un certain Simon Reynaud, concernant les terres de La Besse. Les Reynaud restent possessionnés durant près de deux siècles et des documents postérieurs au XVème siècle indiquent la présence de la ferme. En 1612, Benoît Reynaud fait une reconnaissance envers l'abbé de Mazan, la même année, il marie sa fille Jeanne à Louis Teyssier, qui se fera appelé Louis Teyssier-la-Besse. Les Teyssier occupent les lieux et exploitent également la forêt de Bauzon qui appartient à Mazan. Vers 1770, la ferme semble avoir été victime d'un incendie, de nouvelles dates de travaux sont repérées dans la documentation et étayées par la date portée sur le manteau de l'ancienne cheminée de la salle jouxtant le logis "1787", probablement date ultime de la fin d'un long chantier. Le queyrat du logis est reconstruit en 1774 , date de création probable des oeils-de-boeuf. La Révolution a occasionné des conflits entre habitants. Jean Teyssier, devenu l'un des administrateurs du district d'Aubenas et qui exploitait le domaine et moulin à blé et à scie pour le compte des abbés de Mazan semble en fort désaccord avec son fermier. Le fermier a mis le domaine au pillage et le moulin fut détruit. En 1818, la famille Méjan devient propriétaire par mariage avec la dernière héritière Teyssier du domaine. Cette famille occupe encore la ferme aujourd'hui et en a fait une auberge gastronomique.

The farm of La Besse is located in the hamlet of Rieutord which forms a commune with Usclases situated on the other side of the Loire bank. The lands of Rieutord are within the domain of the abbey of Mazan at least since 1400, date of a lease in perpetuity passed between the abbot of Mazan and a certain Simon Reynaud, concerning the lands of La Besse. The Reynaud remained property owners for nearly two centuries and documents after the 15th century indicate the presence of the farm. In 1612, Benoît Reynaud makes a recognition towards the abbot of Mazan, the same year, he marries his daughter Jeanne to Louis Teyssier, who became known as Louis Teyssier-la-Besse. The Teyssier occupy the place and also exploit the forest of Bauzon which belongs to Mazan.
