History
It was at Cerny-en-Laonnois that the first fighting of the Chemin des Dames took place, in April 1917, when General Nivelle sought to break through the German front on this plateau in the direction of Laon. A project for a memorial to this deadly offensive came into being in the 1930s, but it was not until 1950 that the chapel was built and 1963 for the lantern of the dead.
