L'importance de cette abbaye prémontrée égalait, à la veille de la Révolution française, celle de Saint-Michel-en-Thiérache. Son démantèlement par la suite l'a réduite aux bâtiments de la porterie et de l'ancienne ferme. Un plan réalisé en 1784 restitue l'ordonnance des bâtiments avant leur destruction, répartis dans la boucle de la rivière. Le coeur de l'abbaye avec l'église orientée et ses bâtiments claustraux au sud figure au centre de la boucle. Les communs et la ferme bordent la route. La porterie se trouve à l'entrée ouest de l'ensemble. Des murs de clôture enserrent tous les bâtiments. La porterie est construite en brique et pierre, à double étage, contenant divers logements et percée en son centre d'une haute bae monumentale à plein cintre qui était la porte proprement dite. Ce bâtiment a été sans doute transformé au cours du 19e siècle (des ailes en brique ont été rajoutées de part et d'autre pour agrandir les espaces habités et le passage a été bouché). La porterie donnait accès à une vaste cour. La plupart des bâtiments de la ferme existent encore. Deux vastes granges longeaient la route. La première était suivie par un porche d'accès à la ferme, aujourd'hui disparu, puis par un bâtiment en équerre et une section de murs également disparus, et enfin par un corps de ferme constitué de quatre bâtiments autour d'une cour. History
The importance of this Premonstratensian abbey equalled, on the eve of the French Revolution, that of Saint-Michel-en-Thiérache. Its subsequent dismantling reduced it to the buildings of the gatehouse and the former farmhouse. A plan drawn up in 1784 restores the arrangement of the buildings before their destruction, distributed in the curve of the river. The heart of the abbey with the oriented church and its claustral buildings to the south appears in the centre of the curve. The outbuildings and farm border the road. The gatehouse is located at the west entrance to the ensemble. Boundary walls enclose all the buildings. The gatehouse is built of brick and stone, two storeys, containing various dwellings and pierced at its centre by a tall monumental round-arched opening which was the gate proper. This building was probably transformed during the 19th century (brick wings were added on either side to enlarge the living spaces and the passage was blocked). The gatehouse gave access to a vast courtyard. Most of the farm buildings still exist. Two vast barns lined the road. The first was followed by a porch giving access to the farm, now disappeared, then by a building at right angles and a section of walls also disappeared, and finally by a farmhouse consisting of four buildings around a courtyard. A large 18th-century cellar, consisting of eight or nine bays with groin vaults, extends along the entire length of the eastern farmhouse.
