Historique
Carrière souterraine de pierre (vergelé et banc royal) exploitée depuis le 19e siècle et jusqu'au début des années 1950. De 1914 à 1917, elle fut occupée par les troupes allemandes et, de septembre 1917 à mai 1918, par les Français. Les Allemands l'occupèrent de nouveau de mai à septembre 1918, puis l'armée française la réoccupa définitivement le 29 septembre 1918. La carrière présente treize traces rupestres de la Grande Guerre, dont les huit plus remarquables sont regroupées sur une même paroi. History
Underground stone quarry (vergelé and royal bench) exploited since the 19th century until the early 1950s. From 1914 to 1917, it was occupied by German troops and, from September 1917 to May 1918, by the French. The Germans occupied it again from May to September 1918, then the French army reoccupied it definitively on 29 September 1918. The quarry presents thirteen rock carvings from the Great War, of which the eight most remarkable are grouped on the same wall. These eight sculptures consist of a Swiss shield bearing the inscription God Fatherland, two unrolled parchment scrolls with inscriptions, a bas-relief representing the main monuments of Paris, a crucifix with the walls of Jerusalem in the background, an anchor with unrolled parchment scroll, the imitation of a medallion with ring containing the Sacred Heart, crossed French and American flags.
