La première structure implantée à Fort-de-France fut militaire (début 18e siècle). Le premier hospice civil sera créé en 1793. Un nouvel hôpital civil est construit en 1850, mais sera détruit par un incendie en 1890. Il est décidé de le reconstruire à l'extérieur de l'agglomération. History
The first structure established at Fort-de-France was military (early 18th century). The first civil hospice was created in 1793. A new civil hospital was built in 1850, but was destroyed by fire in 1890. It was decided to rebuild it outside the agglomeration. The old civil hospital forms an ensemble of long timber buildings with peripheral galleries built mostly between 1897 and 1899, abandoned in 1984. Following its abandonment, the building was stripped and demolished.
