Historique

History
Of the first stronghold, dated to the end of the 14th or beginning of the 15th century, only two square towers remain. The present building is of square plan with a central courtyard. Flanking towers protect the angles. The defensive north elevation is pierced by an access doorway, no doubt provided with a drawbridge. The east elevation is pierced by five stone cross-windows on the upper storey, surmounted by five dormers. The orderly central bay of the south elevation houses the staircase whose landings are lit by paired openings. The south-east and north-west towers bear cruciform arrow slits and open by chamfered pointed-arch doors. Three ranges of buildings develop around the courtyard, to the north, east and south. The façades are covered with render in imitation of ashlar. The interior preserves ceilings with joists. The room with rocaille stucco decoration may perhaps have served as a music room, musical instruments and scores being represented there. One room preserves wall paintings arranged in eight vertical panels delimited by rinceaux. In an allegorical landscape are successively a hunting scene, a bagpipe player in the countryside, a ship in a fortified port, a view of the Tuileries, a fountain, a scene of country banquet, a representation of the Masnau and a fortress. This decoration may have been executed between 1653 and 1670.
