Château lié à l'épopée cathare, mentionné dès 1180. Au 13e siècle, il devient un lieu de refuge et de résistance pour les Albigeois. Après la reddition du comte de Foix en 1272, le roi de France fait saisir le château. Donjon refait au 14e siècle ; remaniements aux 15e et 16e siècles. Louis XIII ordonne la démolition du château en 1632.

History
Castle linked to the Cathar epic, mentioned from 1180. In the 13th century, it becomes a place of refuge and resistance for the Albigensians. After the surrender of the count of Foix in 1272, the King of France has the castle seized. Keep rebuilt in the 14th century; alterations in the 15th and 16th centuries. Louis XIII orders the demolition of the castle in 1632.
