Historique
En 1902, l'écrivain et dramaturge Edmond Rostand (1868-1918) achète plusieurs hectares sur la colline dominant la vallée de l'Arraga pour y construire une maison dans le style néo-basque (étages en encorbellement et en pans de bois ; toit asymètrique). La construction, sous la conduite de l'architecte parisien Albert Tournaire, aidé sur place par l'architecte bordelais Pierre Ferret, s'échelonne de 1903 à 1906. Pour le décor somptueux, Rostand s'adresse à de nombreux artistes à la mode : les peintres Gaston Latouche, Hélène Dufau, Georges Delaw et Jean Veber, le sculpteur Raoul Verlet et le ferronnier Vian. Le poète y a vécu, avec sa famille, de 1906 jusqu'à sa mort en 1918. Le domaine est acheté par la ville de Cambo en 1961 pour y installer le musée Rostand, créé en 1958.

History
In 1902, the writer and dramatist Edmond Rostand (1868-1918) purchased several hectares on the hill overlooking the Arraga valley to build a house in the neo-Basque style (storeys in corbelling and timber framing; asymmetrical roof). The construction, under the direction of the Parisian architect Albert Tournaire, assisted on site by the Bordeaux architect Pierre Ferret, extended from 1903 to 1906. For the sumptuous decoration, Rostand addressed numerous fashionable artists: the painters Gaston Latouche, Hélène Dufau, Georges Delaw and Jean Veber, the sculptor Raoul Verlet and the ironworker Vian. The poet lived there with his family from 1906 until his death in 1918. The estate was purchased by the town of Cambo in 1961 to install the Rostand museum, created in 1958.
