Historique
L'école est fondée par décret en date du 9 brumaire an III (31 octobre 1794) , sur proposition du conventionnel Joseph Lakanal. Inauguration en 1847 des bâtiments construits rue d'Ulm par l'architecte Henri-Alphonse de Gisors, à partir de 1841. Les nouveaux bâtiments de chimie et de sciences naturelles sont dessinés par les architectes Jacques et Albert Guilbert (père et fils) de 1930 à 1937 sur la rue Erasme. La fresque dans le bureau de Louis Pasteur est l'oeuvre du peintre Louis-Edouard Fournier ; le monument aux morts au rez-de-chaussée du bâtiment central est réalisé par le sculpteur Paul Landowski en 1923.

The school is founded by decree dated 9 brumaire year III (31 October 1794), on the proposal of the deputy Joseph Lakanal. Inauguration in 1847 of buildings constructed rue d'Ulm by the architect Henri-Alphonse de Gisors, from 1841. The new buildings for chemistry and natural sciences are designed by the architects Jacques and Albert Guilbert (father and son) from 1930 to 1937 on rue Erasme. The fresco in the office of Louis Pasteur is the work of the painter Louis-Edouard Fournier; the war memorial on the ground floor of the central building is executed by the sculptor Paul Landowski in 1923.
