History
These timber-framed shipowners' houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries were arranged by the painter Paul-Elie Gernez in the 1920s to make it his dwelling and studio. The garden was designed in 1923, at the same time as the public garden of Honfleur, by the landscape architect Paul Véra, friend of the painter owner. This second garden conceived by Véra (after that of his property at Saint-Germain-en-Laye) may be considered as the archetype of the cubist garden of the Art Deco period.
