Fort d'arrêt de la ligne des Hauts-de-Meuse, conçu selon le système Séré de Rivières, mis au point en 1873 pour la défense des frontières de l'est. Ouvrage du premier type construit en 1878-1879, renforcé en 1913-1914 et en 1916-1917. Résiste sous le commandement du capitaine Heym aux assauts et aux bombardements allemands entre le 8 et le 11 septembre 1914, empêchant l'encerclement de la 3e armée Sarrail. En 1916, un petit obélisque est érigé à la mémoire des défenseurs du fort.

History
Defensive fort of the Hauts-de-Meuse line, conceived according to the Séré de Rivières system, perfected in 1873 for the defence of the eastern frontiers. First-type fortification built in 1878-1879, reinforced in 1913-1914 and 1916-1917. Resists under the command of captain Heym the assaults and German bombardments between 8 and 11 September 1914, preventing the encirclement of the 3rd Sarrail army. In 1916, a small obelisk is erected in memory of the defenders of the fort.
