The site has been occupied since the Iron Age, of which a tumulus from the final phase stands to the south-east of the castle. To the north-east is found the site of the gold mines of Fagassière which was exploited in the Gallo-Roman period. The building has a rectangular plan which has retained at the north-west and south-west corners the round towers of the 16th century. The north-east corner is occupied by a tower of the 20th century. A chapel also of the 20th century rests against the north façade. The main dwelling dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. Inside, several rooms retain a French ceiling. In the great hall, the 18th-century woodwork is a copy from 1962. The outbuildings consist of a sheepfold from the 17th and 20th centuries, former stables from the 19th and 20th centuries, and a carriage house from the late 19th-early 20th century.
