History
In the middle of the 16th century, Saint-Martin is a barony whose lord possesses an important estate throughout the Landes. The castle, rebuilt from the end of the 16th century, juxtaposes three elements: a western main dwelling flanked by two towers rebuilt around 1600 by Jean de Saint-Martin, seneschal of the Landes; at the centre, arranged in an L-shape, a large pavilion containing the monumental staircase and which belongs to the ambitious project for the transformation of the castle initiated by Bernard de Saint-Martin around 1650; in the extension, a set of buildings joining the north tower reconstituted at the end of the 19th century.
