History

This rural church is representative of the Gothic buildings of Livradois, in the line of the architecture disseminated by the abbey of la Chaise-Dieu. The church is mentioned for the first time in 961, when it is ceded with its dependencies to the abbey of Sauxillanges. The present building corresponds to several building campaigns: Romanesque nave of the 13th century vaulted with broken barrel vault; polygonal choir and south door of the 15th century. Two chapels vaulted with arêtes forming transept arms as well as the south porch were added in the modern period. The square bell tower surmounting the crossing of the transept appears to be of the 19th century, as does the sacristy. The south portal has retained some traces of paint.
