The Ministère de la Culture's notice
Historique

History
Sole remnant of the medieval fortifications of the borough. The first fortifications probably dated to the 13th century. They then protected a small settlement surrounded by a rampart of which there remains today only the "trauc de la campana" or belfry tower, which marked, until the 18th century, the main passage route through the borough. The portanelle opened until 1860 onto the old bridge. It is a quadrangular tower straddling the vestiges of the fortification. The access to the east is covered by a barrel arch with a tall embrasure. The south elevation bears a slit-loophole. The reverse facing the town presents a broken arch without embrasure, surmounted by a niche. The structure is surmounted by a small wall belfry with a gable housing the bell. The two levels are floored. The present access is by a wooden staircase arranged under the tower.
