Historique

History
The barracks were constructed in 1731 to house an Austrian expeditionary corps at the beginning of the Corsican revolutions. In 1773, the French army transformed it, enlarged it and furnished it with a roof of tiles with double slope. Built on a raised ground, its main façade, crowned with a curved pediment, rises three storeys pierced with openings. Two symmetrical doors crowned with a triangular pediment contribute to giving it a classical style and attenuate the asymmetry between the right side of the building (articulated by buttresses) and the left part, the oldest. The rear elevation presents arches joining the two terraces covering the buildings of the cisterns which constitute a glacis between the barracks and the southern rampart.
