Historique

History
From the 9th century, this territory was under the control of the abbey of Saint-Benoît and served as a refuge for monks fleeing the Normans in 833. The church was built in the early 12th century. It consists of a single nave continued without interruption by a square choir terminated by a flat chevet. The choir was no doubt rebuilt in the 13th century. The building was modified in 1525 (addition of a timber bell tower supported at the level of the nave by double wooden posts resting on stone plinths). A plaster vault covered the whole in the 19th century, replaced by a coffered vault in 1983. The flat chevet has retained painted decoration that may date from the 15th century. It consists of juxtaposed scenes, forming a band occupying the middle of the chevet and which continues in the internal splays of the axial opening. A group of hooded men surrounds a woman; a group of two or three men perhaps picks grapes amid the vines; a man on horseback is surrounded by figures in an architectural setting.
