L'histoire de la famille Normant se confond avec celle de l'industrie drapière de Romorantin. L'usine a été fermée en 1969. Le château d'eau installé dans le parc de l'ancien hôtel particulier témoigne de la persistance, vers 1900, dans la bourgeoisie, du goût pour les chinoiseries. Le cabinet aménagé au deuxième étage est décoré de toiles peintes et de peintures murales. Nombre de détails révèlent l'influence des écrits sur la Chine et des recueils d'ornements édités depuis la fin du 18e siècle. Cette fabrique de jardin est la plus pittoresque qui subsiste dans le jardin paysager environnant la demeure que se fit construire, entre 1875 et 1880, Lionel Normant, descendant d'une famille enrichie dans l'industrie drapière.

History
The history of the Normant family is inseparable from that of the cloth industry of Romorantin. The factory was closed in 1969. The water tower installed in the park of the former hôtel particulier bears witness to the persistence, towards 1900, in the bourgeoisie, of a taste for Chinoiserie. The cabinet fitted out on the second floor is decorated with painted canvases and wall paintings. A number of details reveal the influence of writings on China and collections of ornaments published from the late 18th century onwards. This garden building is the most picturesque that remains in the landscape garden surrounding the residence that Lionel Normant, descendant of a family enriched in the cloth industry, had built between 1875 and 1880.
