Historique

History
The courthouse of Nîmes was rebuilt on the site of the "Maison du Roi", at the junction of the old town and new districts. A first construction, built in 1810 according to the plans of Charles Durand, was replaced by the current courthouse. The new construction was built from 1838 to 1848 according to the plans of Gaston Bourdon, departmental architect. It is a neo-classical building, a fine example of didactic architecture, with its important iconographic programme and meeting the criteria of functionality, symmetry and pedagogy. The pediment as well as all the sculpted parts are the work of Paul Colin; the paintings were entrusted to the painter from Nîmes Numa Boucoiran. The interior decoration (woodwork, stucco, coffered ceilings, imitation marble paintings, ...) has been preserved.
