Historique
Gymnase et stade, faisant partie du groupe scolaire Karl-Marx (voir notice Mérimée PA00079915) construit par l'architecte André Lurçat de 1932 à 1934. Relevant du même programme politique impulsé par Paul Vaillant-Couturier, maire communiste de Villejuif depuis 1929, le gymnase communique avec le groupe scolaire par une voie souterraine (aujourd'hui inutilisable). Edifié en béton armé, le bâtiment doit sa silhouette reconnaissable aux escaliers dans des demi-cylindres situés aux extrémités. Le béton brut, les longues verrières et les menuiseries métalliques peintes en rouge répondent à ceux du groupe scolaire en face. Pour des raisons de sécurité, la tribune située sur la terrasse n'est plus utilisée, une tribune nouvelle ayant été aménagée sur le côté ouest du stade.

History
Gymnasium and stadium, forming part of the Karl-Marx school group (see Mérimée notice PA00079915) built by architect André Lurçat from 1932 to 1934. Arising from the same political programme initiated by Paul Vaillant-Couturier, communist mayor of Villejuif since 1929, the gymnasium communicates with the school group by an underground passage (now unusable). Built in reinforced concrete, the building owes its distinctive silhouette to stairs in half-cylinders located at the ends. The raw concrete, long glass walls and metal joinery painted red respond to those of the school group opposite. For safety reasons, the stand on the terrace is no longer used, a new stand having been fitted on the west side of the stadium.
