Monument élevé en souvenir des 200 000 hommes et femmes déportés depuis la France pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, "sombrés dans la nuit et le brouillard, exterminés dans les camps nazis". Dessiné par l'architecte Georges-Henri Pingusson, en collaboration avec son neveu, l'architecte Olivier Dugas, il est érigé à l'instigation de l'association "Le Réseau du Souvenir" et inauguré par le général de Gaulle le 12 avril 1962. La crypte du tombeau du déporté inconnu est située à la pointe de l'île de la Cité, surmontée d'une galerie destinée à servir de musée.

History
Monument erected in remembrance of the 200,000 men and women deported from France during the Second World War, "vanished into night and fog, exterminated in the Nazi camps". Designed by architect Georges-Henri Pingusson, in collaboration with his nephew, architect Olivier Dugas, it was erected at the instigation of the association "Le Réseau du Souvenir" and inaugurated by General de Gaulle on 12 April 1962. The crypt of the tomb of the unknown deportee is situated at the point of the Île de la Cité, surmounted by a gallery intended to serve as a museum.
