Ouvert en 1825, le canal est acheté par la ville de Paris en 1861 et est géré depuis par le Service Municipal des Canaux. Les premières passerelles ont été édifiées vers 1860, suivies de trois passerelles métalliques vers 1890. Neuf écluses furent reconstruites vers 1870.

History
Opened in 1825, the canal was purchased by the city of Paris in 1861 and has been managed since by the Municipal Service of Canals. The first footbridges were built around 1860, followed by three metal footbridges around 1890. Nine locks were rebuilt around 1870.
