Founded in 1544, this metallurgical site originally comprises a furnace and a mill, augmented by a forge during the first half of the 17th century. Its cast iron production places it in the following century among the most important blast furnaces in the Saône valley. Purchased by J.B. Jobard, the factory is equipped in 1834 with an auxiliary steam engine using the waste heat from the blast furnace. Despite the success of this method which spreads to neighbouring blast furnaces, that of Echalonge goes out in 1877 and is demolished. Nothing remains of it, except a coal shed and the master of forges' lodging dating probably to the 18th century, a workers' dwelling built in 1835, as well as a complex hydraulic network supplied by the pond.
