Historique

History
The church depended, until 1789, on the Abbot of Aurillac. An adjoining priory existed. An edifice of Roman origin, enlarged in Gothic and modern periods, presenting an oriented plan with a choir with polygonal chevet. The Roman nave preserves, on the north side, a wall which could date to the end of the 11th or beginning of the 12th century. It was reinforced in the Gothic period by intermediate pillars and ribs. An engaged column surmounted by a capital of Corinthian inspiration is found on the south-east side and could date from the 12th century. The porch was, originally, to possess two bays of which one, today, is occupied by the baptismal font chapel. The bell tower presents a well-preserved traditional form. It is divided into two levels by a string course serving as support on each face for paired openings in pointed arch opening onto the belfry. The round stair turret exceeds the nave by one level and is itself exceeded by another level by the bell tower. The stained-glass windows, dated 1877 and due to painter Martial Mailhot, represent Saint John the Baptist, Saint Saturnin, Saint Alexis and Saint Agatha.
