Historique

History
A building of medieval origin, inhabited by the same family since the 14th century, which underwent important restoration work in the 19th century. Externally, they aimed to restore to the building its medieval arrangements diminished over the centuries (corner towers); internally, installation of modern comforts with woodwork and fireplaces. This building is representative of the medieval or eclectic rewriting particular to the 19th century. The origin of the castle is a fortified house built in the 11th or 12th century, consisting of a keep surrounded by moats and a fortified enclosure with a rampart walk and drawbridge. A second enclosure closed by a wall defended by two low towers, encompassed the outbuildings. At the Revolution, the towers were demolished, then restored in 1875. The moats were filled in 1827. Of approximately square plan, the castle consists of four wings around an interior courtyard. There remains a round tower at the north-west corner, a polygonal tower half projecting at the centre of the south façade and watch turrets at the south-east and south-west corners. Another watch turret flanks the west side of the polygonal tower. A formal garden extends in front of the main façade. Around 1875, the former interior courtyard was covered with a glass roof. Inside, decoration mostly of the 19th century, comprising monumental fireplaces, neo-gothic stencilled paintings, woodwork, French ceilings, tapestries...
