Historique
Villa construite pour la famille Mendez en 1911 par l'architecte Henri Godbarge, théoricien et promoteur du mouvement néo-basque. Elévations à pans de bois et toitures débordantes inspirées de la maison labourdine traditionnelle. Villa modifiée par son auteur en 1927 par le doublement de la demi-terrasse et l'adjonction d'un porche surmonté d'une véranda. Le grand hall à l'anglaise, situé au centre de la composition et occupant la hauteur de deux étages, cumule les fonctions d'entrée, de pièce principale et de distribution avec le grand escalier et les galeries de circulations du premier étage. Le décor (toiles marouflées par le peintre Raymond Virac ; verrières par l'atelier des frères Mauméjean) puise pour l'essentiel dans le style vernaculaire avec toutefois quelques concessions à l'art Déco.

History
Villa built for the Mendez family in 1911 by architect Henri Godbarge, theorist and promoter of the neo-Basque movement. Elevations with timber framing and overhanging roofs inspired by the traditional Labourdine house. Villa modified by its author in 1927 by the doubling of the half-terrace and the addition of a porch surmounted by a veranda. The large English-style hall, situated at the centre of the composition and occupying the height of two storeys, combines the functions of entrance, main room and circulation with the grand staircase and the first-floor circulation galleries. The décor (canvases mounted by painter Raymond Virac; stained glass by the workshop of the Mauméjean brothers) draws essentially from vernacular style with however some concessions to Art Deco.
