Historique
L'enceinte fortifiée dont Ammerschwihr avait été dotée en 1367 par le duc Wenceslas de Luxembourg, grand bailli impérial et frère de l'empereur Charles IV, a été remaniée et partiellement doublée au 16e siècle. Ces vestiges se composent d'une longue section du mur extérieur est, au sud de la tour des Voleurs, d'une tour d'angle et d'une petite partie du mur sud en retour. La tour d'angle, qui a été arasée, est percée de quatre bouches à feu caractéristiques du 16e siècle, éléments que l'on retrouve à proximité de l'ancienne porte (démolie) qui jouxtait la tour des Voleurs. History
The fortified enclosure with which Ammerschwihr had been provided in 1367 by Wenceslas, Duke of Luxembourg, grand imperial bailli and brother of Emperor Charles IV, was remodelled and partially doubled in the 16th century. These remains consist of a long section of the outer eastern wall, to the south of the Tower of Thieves, of an angle tower and a small part of the southern return wall. The angle tower, which has been razed, is pierced by four gun ports characteristic of the 16th century, elements that can be found near the former gate (demolished) which adjoined the Tower of Thieves. In the same sector, one will note the angle tower of the inner enclosure, crowned with crenellation and devoid of gun ports.
