Historique
A l'emplacement de l'église paroissiale de Meillerie fut fondé au Moyen-Age un prieuré de chanoines réguliers de Saint-Augustin, dépendant de l'hospice du Grand Saint-Bernard. Le prieuré conserva son contrôle spirituel et temporel jusqu'à sa suppression en 1752. Les bâtiments consistaient alors en un château et une tour de défense isolée servant de prison. En 1803, l'ancien prieuré est récupéré comme église et presbytère. Une nef est édifiée, reliant l'ancienne chapelle et le beffroi primitif. Les vitraux ayant été brisés en 1822 par un orage, l'oculus et les deux baies géminées du chevet sont murés. De nouveaux vitraux, dus à Jean-Augustin Bessac, sont posés en 1877. La toiture est refaite en 1895. Du 13e siècle subsistent le choeur de l'ancienne chapelle et le clocher.

History
At the site of the parish church of Meillerie a priory of regular canons of Saint Augustine was founded in the Middle Ages, dependent on the hospice of the Grand Saint-Bernard. The priory retained its spiritual and temporal control until its suppression in 1752. The buildings then consisted of a castle and an isolated defence tower serving as a prison. In 1803, the former priory was recovered as a church and presbytery. A nave is built, connecting the former chapel and the primitive belfry. The stained glass having been broken in 1822 by a storm, the oculus and the two paired openings of the chevet are walled up. New stained glass, due to Jean-Augustin Bessac, are installed in 1877. The roof is remade in 1895. From the 13th century remain the choir of the former chapel and the bell tower.
