Historique
Le projet d'un chemin de fer funiculaire reliant le bas de la station d'Evian à Neuvecelle date du début du 20e siècle. La concession est accordée à la Compagnie Foncière d'Evian en 1912. Sa construction par la Société Van Roll date de 1914, l'ensemble étant mis en service en 1915. Les voies ferrées, longues de 750 mètres (signées Burbach, 1907) desservent six petites stations : Gare Inférieure, Source Cachat, Splendid Hôtel, Hôtel Royal, Mateirons et Gare Supérieure. Cette dernière conserve la machinerie de traction d'origine. Désaffecté depuis 1970, ce funiculaire est le seul subsistant de son type, à savoir une traction par câble sans crémaillère. La station supérieure en bois, de style "chalet", a été endommagée par un incendie en 1991.

History
The project for a funicular railway connecting the lower part of the Evian station to Neuvecelle dates from the early 20th century. The concession was granted to the Compagnie Foncière d'Evian in 1912. Its construction by the Société Van Roll dates from 1914, with the whole being put into service in 1915. The railway tracks, 750 metres long (signed Burbach, 1907) serve six small stations: Gare Inférieure, Source Cachat, Splendid Hôtel, Hôtel Royal, Mateirons and Gare Supérieure. The latter retains the original traction machinery. Out of service since 1970, this funicular is the sole surviving example of its type, namely cable traction without a rack. The wooden upper station, in "chalet" style, was damaged by fire in 1991.
