This industrial area developed for the extraction and exploitation of silver-bearing lead ore from 1714 to 1866 starting from a high point, the entrance to the extraction galleries, towards the lower part. The energy used being hydraulic energy by gravity, the location of the buildings corresponding to the process of mechanical and metallurgical treatment of the ore is still visible today: - on the upper part of the site, the Palace of the Mine, built between 1761 and 1797, entirely redesigned in 1803-1804 by Schreiber, by the need to accommodate students of the French School of Mines; the foundry built by the English Company around 1745, ruins which preserve the main structure of the two reverberatory furnaces built in 1754 and the four half-blast furnaces built by the Savoyard Company around 1760; the secondary foundry for the treatment of litharge, built around 1780; the entrance to the galleries (destroyed); the ruins of the forge, three washeries of the charcoal shed and a building which housed a steam-powered exhaust machine. - on the lower part, 600 metres from the entrance to the galleries, the ruins of a stamping mill and the large washery. - the drainage gallery connecting the two parts of the site, undertaken by the Savoyard Company in 1760 completed in 1778 and restored by Schreiber in 1803. Its function was to drain the extraction galleries. Finally the larch-lined avenue planted around 1810 leads to the Palace of the Mine.
