History
The foundation of Chamousset dates back to the 13th century. The château replaced an older manor. Restored in the 19th century with the participation of Viollet-le-Duc and his collaborator Edmond Duthoit. Between 1868 and 1870, the first works consist of the demolition and reconstruction of the north part of the château and the eastern pavilion. Around 1885, construction of the new keep, the south main dwelling, the tower above the chapel, and the farm buildings. From 1892 to 1895, realisation of all the interior painting works by the architect Gelis-Didot, representative of the tastes of a great family of the era. Dining room of neo-medieval style (ceiling, corbelled beam, painted frieze, fireplace, wainscoting...). The king's bedroom is decorated in a neo-Renaissance style. The captain of the guards' bedroom has a fireplace of neo-Moorish style.
