Fondé vers le 11e siècle, le prieuré dépendait de l'abbaye Saint-Martin de l'Ile Barbe. A la fin du 15e siècle, éprouvé par la guerre de Cent ans, le prieuré tombe en commende. Touché par le passage des armées protestantes en 1562. Au 17e siècle, le prieuré est attribué aux Carmes Déchaussés de Lyon. A cette époque, sont exécutés des aménagements et une restauration suite aux guerres de Religion. A la Révolution, le bâtiment est sauvé par les habitants. La chapelle devient église paroissiale et subit des transformations durant la 2ème moitié du 19e siècle.
