Historique
L'église est confirmée dès 1245, à l'abbaye des Dames de Saint-Pierre à Lyon par le Pape Innocent IV. Son origine remonterait à une donation à leur profit en 587 (?) de fonds à Monthieux par Girard et sa femme Grimberge au XXe siècle M. dépendait au temporel des sires de Villars. L'église de Monthieux renferme des tombeaux des familles de Gaspard et de Damas. 1483 Claude de Gaspard demande à être enterré en la chapelle neuve par lui fondé. Les revenus de la cure consistent dans un tiers des grandes dîmes et deux tiers des petites ; le reste appartenant aux Bénédictines Saint-Pierre de Lyon. Il existe dans l'église deux inscriptions, l'une sur le mur sud d'une chapelle, l'autre par devant le sanctuaire très important, mais à demi martelée. Le clocher d'origine a été détruit en 1793. Une reproduction exacte en a été décidée au 19e siècle. L'appareillage des pierres de taille est typique de la Dombes.

History
The church is confirmed from 1245 at the abbey of the Ladies of Saint-Pierre in Lyon by Pope Innocent IV.
