Le terrain fut occupé par le couvent des Cordeliers, puis par des maisons le long de la rue Bourgmayer et par le couvent des Ursulines. En 1771, le sieur Chaussat de Sougey y fait construire son hôtel particulier. Les communs ont été utilisés comme atelier par le sculpteur Emilien Cabuchet.
