En 1124, les Prémontrés succèdent à un chapitre de chanoines. Eglise édifiée dans la seconde moitié du 12e siècle. Edification du choeur, du transept et de la nef vers 1160. Vers 1190, remplacement de la charpente primitive par une voûte contrebutée par des arcs-boutants ; élévation de la façade du bras sud du transept. En 1226-1240, le choeur est couvert d'une charpente. Construction des tours jusqu'à la fin du 13e siècle. Les flèches sont abattues en 1605. Entre 1616 et 1621, construction du palais abbatial et du pavillon situé dans le jardin. En 1736, reconstruction par les architectes Charles et Nicolas Bonhomme. Reconstrution de la tour nord-est en 1740. Reconstruction des ailes nord et ouest et des galeries du cloître de 1779 à 1788.
