Ce château fut construit au début du 14e siècle, vers 1310. Se trouvant sur la frontière de l'Escaut, il eut à subir et à repousser de nombreux sièges. La tour Jeanne d'Arc est le seul vestige encore visible en surface du château démoli sous Louis XIV, dans lequel Jeanne d'Arc fut prisonnière quatre mois en 1430. Une partie des souterrains est bien conservée.

History
This castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century, around 1310. Being on the frontier of the Scheldt, it had to withstand and repel numerous sieges. The Jeanne d'Arc tower is the only vestige still visible on the surface of the castle demolished under Louis XIV, in which Jeanne d'Arc was prisoner for four months in 1430. Part of the underground chambers is well preserved.
